I don’t watch SNL very often, but I do catch up with sketches on Youtube occasionally. But for reasons, last night I actually caught the cold open live. I’m glad I did. Kate McKinnon is a gem and I hope we see her in fun things for years to come, now that she’s unleashed from her weekly gig.

Her work in this skit was…otherworldly
And rewatching the skit this morning led me to this…
Which is really the reason I even wrote this post. If I’m grabbing for the box of tissues, well, I’ve got to share. This was the cold open after the horror of the election of 2016.
Still hits hard.
I’m busy packing up the house so I can get new floors in a week. What a PITA, but it’s given me the chance to do a big purge. 5 bags of clothes to the homeless shelter and I’m up to 4 boxes for donation and I’m only 1/3 of a way through the house, so I’m assuming there will be more. I’m not a packrat, but still things crept up over the last 5 1/2 years – when I purged before I moved to this house. Gonna be a busy few weeks, with painting on the agenda before all the stuff gets moved back into the house from the garage.
What’s on your plate this Sunday?
McKinnon is hilarious. I hope to see her in lots of movies and TV shows if that’s what she wants to do next.
Liverpool vs Wolves starts at 10 CDT, final day of Premier League. After that, household chores.
I can’t imagine how they’ll replace her; some weeks, she practically carried the show. At least Cecily Strong will be back next season.
I really like McKinnon, and hope she goes on to do exactly whatever she wants. Hopefully no more phone commercials; the one she did (I can’t remember the brand, may have blocked it out) was extreme cringe.
TaMara, I can’t wait to see your new digs – and how the various critters adjust to them!
I still am of two minds about moving when I retire in a few years. I’ve lived in my townhouse for 20+ years, and OMG the sheer volume of STUFF I’ve accumulated is mindblowing. (Even though I have and do go through and get rid of things periodically.) So sometimes all I need to do is think about what it would take to winnow through and pack everything up, and think “Nah, I’ll just stay where I’m at.”
@CaseyL: I have been in my house for seventeen years, I think stuff reproduces asexually.
“As of 2:30pm EST today May 20, 2022, The People’s Convoy declares victory and announces its conclusion of the national convoy portion of this great movement. Any convoy and protest activity from this time forward is done on an individual basis and is not representing The People’s Convoy.”

Wasn’t there a story about trucker convoy members having to break into the luxury RV of the leaders, demanding to know where all the money went?
I remember that 2016 cold open. I share your sentiment.
The whole story is LULZ:

You changed, it used to be about the revolution, maaannnn……
@StringOnAStick:
I was just about to post this:

After returning to the Maryland Speedway, they started fighting each other over the funding. So, they really are only grifters, after all. (Not a newsflash, LOL)
“The People’s Convoy vowed to do more than just endlessly circle Washington D.C.’s Beltway in urine-soaked jeans when they returned to their base camp at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Wednesday. But instead of somehow sneaking two dozen or so semi trucks into one of the most heavily monitored cities on Earth, members devolved into fist fights, animal abuse and accusations.
Update: Saturday, May 21, 2022 7:35 a.m. EST – People’s Convoy supporters were not thrilled with last night’s declaration of success from their leaders. Members accosted the luxury RV leaders were hiding out in and demanded Maryland police arrest leaders for fraud”

“HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A western Maryland race track has evicted the remnants of a trucker protest that had used the site as a staging ground.”

I watched last night’s SNL and thought the send-off for Kate McKinnon was great. But the send-off for Aidy Bryant (with Bowen Yang in their bit together) was also great. Aidy Bryant is amazingly talented and she will be successful anywhere she goes next.
Of the versions of Hallelujah that I’ve seen and heard, including Cohen’s, Kate McKinnon’s is my favorite.
My bathroom remodel has stalled for reasons only the contractor knows. My garage is full of tile, plumbing fixtures, and the contractor’s tools, but the guy only worked on it one day early last week. He thought he was going to be done by the end of May; that’s not looking possible now.
@Scott211
Short track operators will do anything to turn a buck, so it was likely more along the lines of “listen fellas, your check bounced, and the 305 sprints are coming in this weekend, so you’re gonna have to leave the team hauler lot by 1 pm….”
@NeenerNeener,
That sucks, do you have a proper, detailed contract?
@NeenerNeener
“only worked on it one day early last week”
That’s one more day of working last week than occurred at B-J.
😉
@NeenerNeener – OMG, don’t jinx me, LOL. Sorry to hear that.
The Duke and I are likewise purging and packing, except for a move and not just floors. We’re sort of pack rats, though (not to the extent of our firmer housemate, a full-on hoarder), and we’ve been here 13 years. And expected not to have to move again, *sigh*.
@Jay – yes, I have a contract, for as much as that’s worth in the time of COVID-19.
It’s going to be hard to top Kate McKinnon. She really shines as a character actor, and I hope she has her pick of fun projects. Or whatever else she wants to do
Based on what I went through last year when my washing machine pump failed in a first floor laundry room and I had to replace 500 sq ft of flooring, these days you don’t have the undivided attention of your contractor from start to finish. They have multiple jobs going at once, and they work around the availability of materials and health of subcontractors. I miss the old days.
Ok, incoming test
test in rearview mirror
we apologize for the non sequitur.
Whoops, need another one
???? why the hell does italic work as em but not bold?!
Looks like ol’ Hersh is going the full evangelical suck-up route. Anyone want to bet he has an abortion in his past?

@Yutsano: I’d bet he’s responsible for at least one in high school and one in college.
